A2Empowerment, Inc. was founded in 2008 by Anne Cheung and Anne Rapin in order to improve the lives of girls and women in underdeveloped parts of the world. Anne Rapin's experience as a Peace Corps Volunteer in Cameroon compelled both women to act.

A2Empowerment developed a program, working with Peace Corps Volunteers in Cameroon, to offer academic scholarships to young women in rural areas at high risk of dropping out of school. In 2010, the average cost per scholarship is $60 USD, which includes tuition, school fees and books. The full amount of all donations goes directly toward these scholarships.

In 2009, the company grew from 17 to 27 scholarship recipients in the Adamaoua region of Cameroon, funding secondary school education for 25 recipients and sending two young women to trade school.

In 2010, A2Empowerment scholarships will be awarded to 47 young women. The program is expanding into North and Northwest Cameroon, while maintaining the program in Adamaoua. Peace Corps Volunteers had requested the expansion after seeing the success of the Adamaoua scholarship program. Also, new this year, scholarship recipients will be asked to tutor younger students in their communities to serve as role models to the younger students.

We plan to continue and improve this program in 2011, sustaining support for current recipients who qualify and expanding the program to additional students
